Clouds will build into the area today ahead of the next storm system, expected to approach the area tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

Light rain is possible this evening into the overnight, eventually tapering off Christmas morning. Rainfalls totals should be limited to a quarter-inch or less, the weather service said.

Additional rainfall is expected from Wednesday to Friday, with rainfall totals near or over 1 inch possible, particularly across eastern Kansas and western Missouri, according to the weather service. No hazardous weather is expected with any activity this week.

Today, there is a chance of sprinkles after 4 p.m., with a high near 50 and a south wind of 5 to 10 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, Christmas Eve, there is a 60 percent chance of rain, possibly mixing with snow after 2 a.m., then gradually ending, according to the weather service. The low will be around 34 with a south southeast wind of 5 to 7 mph. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

On Tuesday, Christmas Day, the high will be near 48 with partly sunny skies and a south wind of 5 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers after midnight, according to the weather service. The low will be around 38 with an east wind of 3 to 7 mph.

Wednesday, there is a 70 percent chance of showers, with a high near 52 and a southeast wind of 7 to 11 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph, the weather service said. Between a tenth and a quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Wednesday night, there is a 100 percent chance of showers, with a low of 47, according to the weather service. Between a half and three-quarters of an inch of rain is possible.

Thursday, there is an 80 percent chance of showers, mainly before noon, the weather service said. The high will be near 57.

Thursday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 31, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 36, the weather service said.

Friday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 19, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 32, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 21, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny, with a high near 39, the weather service said.

St. Patrick Catholic Church, 94th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas, will hold Christmas Eve Masses in English at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Dec. 24, and at midnight in Spanish. Masses on Christmas Day will be at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. in English on Dec. 25, and at noon Dec. 25 in Burmese.


Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas, will observe the fourth Sunday in the Advent season at 10 a.m. Dec. 23. Christmas Eve services will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24. Christmas Day services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 25.

Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave., will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight communion service at 7 p.m. Dec. 24.
