Accident victim identified

Police have identified the victim of a fatal accident on Dec. 22 at the 18th Street Expressway near Steele Road.

The victim was Orlin Peraza, 18, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, police stated.

According to the Kansas City, Kansas, police spokesman, an initial investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling on 18th Street when it attempted to change lanes. During the lane change, the driver struck another vehicle, according to the spokesman.

The driver then lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and overturned in the ditch, police stated. He was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to police.

The accident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit-Critical Collision Response Team. Anyone with information is asked to contact the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Homicide victim identified

The victim of a homicide near 39th and Rainbow on Saturday, Dec. 22, has been identified, according to Kansas City, Kansas, police.

The victim was Krystal R. Swygert, 27, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, according to a police spokesman.

Police were called to the area about 5:08 p.m. Saturday on a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, officers found a woman who was suffering from a gunshot wound, the spokesman stated. The victim was taken to a hospital.

Although the injury originally was believed to be minor and non-life-threatening, the hospital later reported the victim died during surgery, according to the police spokesman.
