Downtown KCK Holiday Lighting Festival to be Nov. 30

The annual Mayor’s Holiday Lighting Festival in downtown Kansas City, Kansas, will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30.

The festival, including a tree lighting ceremony, is held each year in front of City Hall at 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

On the evening’s schedule are visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, school and community groups performing musical and dance selections, and classic holiday movies.

Some of these events will be inside the first-floor lobby of City Hall, starting at 4 p.m. There will be refreshments available.

The event will be held rain or shine.

The festival is free and open to the public. Several sponsors are providing funding and services for the event.

Breakfast with Santa planned Dec. 1

Grinter Place Friends plan a Breakfast with Santa from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Grinter Barn, 1400 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

The menu includes pancakes, sausages and a drink.

There will be pictures with Santa Claus, and children will receive a gift bag, do a craft and visit a face painter.

There will be vendors who will have gift items and baked items for sale.

Tickets may be purchased for the opportunity quilt.

The cost of breakfast will range from $3 to $7.

The Grinter House will be open for tours from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and the admission charge is $6 for adults and $3 for students.

Six Blue Devils earn post-season soccer honors; four on first team

Six Kansas City Kansas Community College Blue Devils have been earned All-Jayhawk East Conference soccer honors for 2018 – five of them freshmen.

Four Blue Devils were named to the first team headed by the lone sophomore, forward Reed Axthelm of Riverton, Wyoming.

He was joined on the first unit by midfielder Alejandro Maillet of Alleroed, Denmark; and defenders Stylianos Papadimitriou of Nicosia, Cyprus, and Ignacio Sarasol of Valencia, Spain.

Named to the second team were goalkeeper Fabian Keiblinger of Sitzenberg-Reidling, Austria, and defender Justin Hynes of Villingen, Germany.

Cowley College, which won the Jayhawk East with a 10-0 record, dominated the All-East team with 11 first-team selections and swept the individual awards.

Freshmen Santiago Gimenez and Elluan Martins were named Co-Offensive Players of the Year, sophomore Jesus Garcia Defender of the Year and Ruy Vaz Coach of the Year.
