Blood donations needed

The American Red Cross says there is an urgent need for blood donations to make sure blood is available for medical treatments and emergencies.

Blood donations often decline during the holidays while regular donors are busy with holiday activities. Travel and severe winter weather may cause blood drive cancellations.

Patients still need blood, and donors are asked to give now to make sure patients don’t have to worry about blood availability this winter.

Everyone who donates blood now through Dec. 19 through the Red Cross will receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card through email. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old.

An upcoming Red Cross blood drive in Wyandotte County will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Cabela’s, 10300 Cabela Drive, Kansas City, Kansas.

For the locations of other blood drives, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
