Rock, Roll and Run to be Aug. 18 at Providence amphitheater

Providence Medical Center and the YMCA of Greater Kansas City will present the third annual Rock, Roll and Run Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Providence Medical Center Amphitheater, 633 N. 130th St., Bonner Springs, Kan.

Proceeds benefit the Providence YMCA-Ball Family Center’s Cancer Survivorship program, as well as the YMCA scholarship program.

The family-friendly activities begin Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Providence Medical Center Amphitheater with a 5K walk-run though Wyandotte County Park, Bonner Springs, at 8 a.m., followed by a free Kids Run and Health Fair.

Runners are encouraged to “dress” like their favorite Rock and Roll stars. Tribute stars such as Elvis 2 and others will be entertaining during the run. Each registered runner will receive free tickets to the Providence Amphitheater, a $120 value.

Health screenings and information will be available for blood pressure, breast cancer awareness information, body fat,-bmi, health and weight checks, Leg Vein Checks (Peripheral Artery Disease), stress measurement and relaxation information for expecting moms, smoking cessation and healthy nutrition information, hands-only CPR information, Children’s Health information and a special Teddy Bear clinic (children will receive a free stuff animal), and more.

Other activities include a free kids run at 9:30 a.m.; inflated obstacle course for the kids, Zumba before the kids run, Mascots (Sizzle and Happy Heart) local fire and police activities, KCKFD Fire Safety House, face painting and other fun activities.

Those who do not want to participate in the run-walk may still visit the health fair for free and participate in the kids run for free.

One YMCA member who lost 120 pounds and participated in the 5K last year plans to be participating again this year.

I-70 ramp accident reported

An injury-accident was reported at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, on westbound I-70 near the ramp to 57th Street.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a Ford F-150 truck and a Dodge Avenger collided in the intersection at the bottom of the I-70 ramp to 57th Street.

The driver of the Ford F-150, a 57-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, had a possible injury and was taken to the hospital, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Avenger, a 26-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, woman, was not injured, according to the trooper’s report. A 5-month-old Kansas City, Kansas, girl who was a passenger in the Avenger also was not injured, the trooper’s report stated.

Rain returns to area today and Wednesday

Rain that fell this morning is expected to continue today into the afternoon and evening, and stay in the area for the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.

While local flooding cannot be ruled out, currently the scattered nature of the storms makes the threat very remote, according to the weather service.

Severe weather is not expected, but a few storms could produce winds gusts up to 40 mph, the weather service said.

River and stream flooding also is possible in the midweek, according to the weather service.
Today’s high will be near 80, with showers and a thunderstorm possible, the weather service said. There will be a southeast wind of 7 mph. New rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch are possible.

Tonight, the low will be around 69, with a 60 percent chance of rain, according to the weather service. Showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then a chance of showers and storms after 1 a.m. There will be a south southeast wind of 3 to 6 mph. New rainfall amounts of between a quarter and a half-inch of rain are possible.

Wednesday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers with thunderstorms also possible after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 84 with a north wind of 5 to 7 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.

Wednesday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 68 and a north northwest wind of 3 to 7 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 89 and a north wind of 3 to 5 mph, the weather service said.

Thursday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be 71.

Friday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers with a high near 87, the weather service said.

Friday night, the low will be around 69 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.
