Slightly cooler, storm chances today

Today the high in Wyandotte County should reach near 93, with a heat index as high as 100, according to the National Weather Service.

A cold front is expected to move south over the region by this afternoon, bringing a chance for storms and rain, the weather service said. The heat advisory today has been canceled, and now there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m., according to the weather service.

Moderate river flooding will continue along the Missouri River from Brownville, Nebraska, through St. Joseph, Missouri, at least through Friday morning, the weather service said. Minor flooding is occurring in Atchison, Kansas, and the Missouri River is in the action stage at Leavenworth, Kansas.

The Missouri River at Kansas City is well under flood stage, according to hydrology charts. The Kansas River in Kansas City, Kansas, also is well under flood stage.

A calm wind today will become west around 6 mph in the morning, according to the weather service.

Tonight, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 p.m., then a slight chance of showers after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 74 with a northeast wind of 3 to 8 mph.

Friday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 89 with a northeast wind of 8 mph.

Friday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 68 and an east wind of 6 to 8 mph, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny with a high near 88 and an east southeast wind of 6 to 8 mph, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 65, according to the weather service.

Sunday, the forecast is sunny with a high near 89, the weather service said.

Homicide victim identified

The victim of a homicide at 8:30 p.m. July 3 near 1st and Richmond has been identified, according to Kansas City, Kansas, police.

The victim was Calab R. Pentlin, 20, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, police said.

Silver Alert issued for 74-year-old man

Jesus Gonzales

A Silver Alert was issued for Jesus Gonzales, 74, of Kansas City, Kansas.

According to the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, Gonzales was last seen wearing a red shirt, green pajama pants with black spots, and white shoes.

He was last seen leaving a residence in the 3000 block of North 34th Street on July 4. He suffers from dementia and other medical conditions that require continuous medication, according to police.

The police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating Gonzales. Anyone who sees Gonzales may call 911, according to police.

Gonzales is 5-11, 140 pounds, has brown eyes and gray hair.
