Bernie Sanders to campaign Friday in KCK for Brent Welder

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is coming to Kansas City, Kansas, on Friday, July 20, to campaign for Brent Welder for U.S. Representative, 3rd District.

The program is at 6 p.m. July 20 at the Reardon Convention Center, 520 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Welder, Bonner Springs, worked in Sanders’ campaign when Sanders, who was a long-time independent, ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016.

Also planning to appear at the rally is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who won a primary victory over an established Democratic incumbent June 26 in New York.

The Sanders rally is free and open to the public, and those who attend must sign up for a free ticket at the website, www.WinWithWelder.com.

Six Democrats filed for the Democratic nomination for U.S Representative, 3rd District. The election is Aug. 7.

Raised dump truck bed hits bridge at southbound I-635 near K-5

I-635 southbound near K-5 was closed overnight after a dump truck hit a highway bridge. According to a social media post from the Kansas City, Kansas, police chief, a dump truck doing resurfacing on Leavenworth Road entered the highway with its truck bed up. The truck bed hit the bridge as the truck went under 34th Street, tearing the bed off the truck, according to the police chief’s post. The driver had minor injuries.
