Rollover accident on I-635 happened after ‘erratic’ driving, according to authorities

A rollover accident at 7:25 a.m. Thursday, July 26, on southbound I-635 north of K-5 highway happened after a vehicle was “driving erratically,” according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

Southbound I-635 was closed down this morning after the accident, with traffic backed up to I-29 in Missouri. The highway has since reopened.

According to the trooper’s report, a Claycomo, Missouri, woman was behind the wheel of a Nissan Rogue that was driving erratically on southbound I-635.

The Nissan Rogue driver made an unsafe lane change and struck the right front side of a Ford F-150, according to the trooper’s report. Then the Nissan Rogue hit the barrier wall and rolled, the trooper’s report stated.

The 52-year-old driver of the Nissan Rogue had a possible injury and was taken to the hospital, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the F-150 truck, a 39-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man, was not injured, the report stated.

A few storms are possible this morning for the Kansas City area and areas south of the Missouri River, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms are not expected to be severe, the weather service said.

A few additional rounds of storms will be possible Friday night through Sunday; however, severe weather is not expected, according to the weather service.

Cooler temperatures, with rain, are likely on the weekend.

Today, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 p.m., the weather service said. It will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 83 and a north northeast wind of 5 to 7 mph.

Tonight, the low will be around 64 with mostly clear skies and a north northwest wind of 3 to 6 mph.

Friday, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 84. Light and variable winds will become east northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Friday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 67, according to the weather service. A light and variable wind will become east southeast around 5 mph after midnight.

Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 81 with a south wind of 5 to 9 mph.

Saturday night, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers are likely, and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 65. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch are possible.

Sunday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers before 1 p.m., with a high near 79, the weather service said.

Sunday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 64, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 81, the weather service said.

Monday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 62, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be sunny with a high near 85, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 64, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be sunny with a high near 88, the weather service said.
