16-year-old girl injured in I-70 accident

A 16-year-old girl was injured in an accident at 4:57 p.m. Saturday, June 30, on westbound I-70 near the 57th Street exit.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, the 16-year-old driver from Kansas City, Kansas, lost control of a Chevy Malibu and struck the barrier wall.

She was injured and taken to a hospital, the trooper’s report stated.

Severe thunderstorm warning reissued for Wyandotte County

A severe thunderstorm warning has been reissued for northwestern Wyandotte County until 8:15 p.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, at 7:07 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Lewis and Clark Village to Baldwin City, Kansas, moving northeast at 15 mph.

This storm has 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, according to the weather service.

Bonner Springs, Edwardsville and Kansas City, Kansas, are in the storm’s path, along with Leavenworth County and Johnson County.

Hail damage to vehicles is possible, along with wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.

Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of the building.
