Homicide investigated near 1st and New Jersey

Kansas City, Kansas, police are investigating a homicide at 10:44 p.m. Thursday, May 10, near the 100 block of New Jersey Avenue.

Officers responding to a shots fired call found a sport utility vehicle to the east of the 100 block of New Jersey, in the woods, a police spokesman stated.

When officers approached the vehicle, they found a man inside, dead from an apparent gunshot wound, the spokesman stated.

Police are withholding the name of the victim until there is positive identification and family notification.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Sunday, expect a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 88, the weather service said. A west wind of 6 to 8 mph will become south in the afternoon.

Sunday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., with a low of 69, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 89, the weather service said.

Wednesday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers with a high near 86, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, the low will be around 64 with mostly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.
