Many offices closed for Memorial Day

Many offices will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 28.

Unified Government offices will be closed on Monday, May 28, and will reopen on Tuesday, May 29.

The Board of Public Utilities administrative offices and customer service lobby will be closed on Monday, May 28, and will reopen on Tuesday, May 29.

BPU emergency service is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Customers may call 913-573-9522 for power emergencies and 913-573-9622 for water emergencies.

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority will go on a holiday schedule on Memorial Day, May 28. Sunday and holiday schedules will take effect for bus routes. The regional call center and administrative offices will be closed.

RideKC Freedom paratransit service will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and paratransit is available in eligible areas. The Unified Government will not offer service because these routes do not run on Sundays. For more information, visit RideKC.org.

There will be no trash pickup Monday, and trash pickup will be delayed a day next week.

According to information from Waste Management, there will be no recycling or trash service on Memorial Day, May 28, in Wyandotte County.

Residents whose regular trash collection day is Monday will have their trash picked up on Tuesday. There will be a one-day service delay for the rest of the week.

Juvenile charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with car crash on 67th

A juvenile male has been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated battery in connection with the death of a juvenile female on 67th Street near Georgia on May 12, according to the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s spokesman.

District Attorney Mark A. Dupree Sr. filed charges on May 24 in the case.

At the time of the crash, police stated that a 17-year-old female was getting out of a tan pickup when a blue vehicle traveling northbound on 67th collided with it. The female was standing outside the truck when it was struck, according to police.

Other occupants of the truck were taken to a hospital with injuries, police said.

Car-deer accident reported on I-70

A car-deer accident was reported at 1:05 p.m. May 24 on westbound I-70 near K-7, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

The driver of a Hyundai Tucson struck a deer in the roadway, according to the trooper’s report.

A 47-year-old woman from Salina, Kansas, who was driving the Hyundai was injured but was not taken to the hospital, according to the trooper’s report.
