Another cool, rainy day in today’s forecast

Temperatures will remain well below normal today into tonight, with lows falling down to a hard freeze in the teens and 20s, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Gusty northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected by the afternoon hours, the weather service said.

Today, rain and thunderstorms are likely before noon, then a slight chance of showers between noon and 1 p.m., according to the weather service. There will be patchy fog before noon.

The high will be near 41 today, with a northeast wind of 7 to 12 mph becoming northwest 18 to 23 mph in the afternoon, the weather service said. Winds may gust as high as 31 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of precipitation is expected.

It was raining and the temperature was 37 degrees at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Tonight, expect a low of 21 with a northwest wind of 9 to 18 mph, gusting as high as 28 mph, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be sunny with a high of 46 and a northwest wind of 5 to 7 mph becoming south in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, the low will be around 37 with partly cloudy skies and a south wind of 7 to 10 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday, temperatures will go up about 16 degrees, to a high of 62, the weather service said. There will be a south southwest wind of 9 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 23 mph.

Thursday night, the low will be around 32 with mostly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be cloudy with a high near 38, the weather service said.

Friday night, the low will be around 26 with mostly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Saturday, the high will be near 46 with partly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Saturday night, the low will be around 35 with mostly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Sunday, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers, with a high near 53, the weather service said.

Sunday night, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers with a low of 39, according to the weather service.

Monday, the high will be near 54 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.

MLK commemorative event to be held April 4 at John Brown statue in KCK

The community is invited to a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the John Brown Memorial statue at 27th and Sewell, Kansas City, Kansas.

The 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. King will be April 4.

The Quindaro Ruins-Underground Railroad – Exercise 2018, residents, community organizations and representatives from the Unified Government have joined in this event to commemorate the life and work of Dr. King, according to a UG spokesman.

The community chose the location of the John Brown statue, near the Quindaro Ruins, after the statue was vandalized on March 18 with slurs and hate symbols. Since then, a police officer volunteered to clean up the statue, and it has been restored.

There will be a short program with speakers on April 4. According to Edwin Birch, UG spokesman, students also plan to participate in the ceremony April 4. The length of the event is expected to be from a half-hour to 40 minutes.

This event is an opportunity for the community to stand together as one to commemorate the life and work of two activists, John Brown and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who fought against hatred and bigotry during their time, according to the spokesman.

After the program at the John Brown statue, there will be a post-program conversation with community advocates to be held at the nearby Vernon Multi-Purpose Center, 3436 N. 27th St.
