Two officers graduate from law enforcement training

Two law enforcement officers in Wyandotte County graduated recently from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Yoder, Kansas.

The two were Miranda Lawson and Wesley Winters, patrol officers with the University of Kansas Medical Center Police Department in Kansas City, Kansas.

Students in the class received certificates of course completion from KLETC and Kansas law enforcement certification from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training, the state’s law enforcement licensing authority. The training course fulfills the state’s requirement for law enforcement training.

The center, located near Hutchinson, Kansas, is a division of University of Kansas Professional and Continuing Education.

KCK students share research at K-State symposium

Undergraduate researchers from Kansas City, Kansas, were among those making presentations on Sunday, April 15, in the Developing Scholars Program Research Poster Symposium at Kansas State University.

In the program, students are provided with opportunities to participate in research projects with a faculty mentor. The students receive academic, social and financial support while participating in the project.

Victim advocate awarded scholarship

A victim advocate from the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Victim Services Unit has been awarded a scholarship to attend a national training conference on violent crimes against women.

According to a news release from the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, the scholarship will help victim advocates attend the April 16-19 Conference on Crimes Against Women, held in Dallas, Texas.

Scholarship proceeds cover registration, travel and hotel costs.

Conference participants may receive training through workshops, computer labs and case studies. CCAW is presented by Genesis Women’s Shelter and Support and the Dallas Police Department.
