Injury-accident reported on I-70

An injury-accident was reported about 5:12 p.m. Friday, April 20, on eastbound I-70 west of I-635, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol’s crash log.

The vehicles were eastbound on I-70 when a Chrysler Town and Country slowed for traffic and a Ford Crown Victoria hit the back of the Chrysler Town and Country, the trooper’s crash report stated.

The driver of the Crown Victoria, an 84-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, had a possible injury and was taken to the hospital, according to the trooper’s report.

A passenger in the Crown Victoria, a 59-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, was injured and was taken to the hospital, the report stated.

The driver of the Town and Country, a 28-year-old Leavenworth, Kansas, man, was not injured, according to the trooper’s report.

Today’s high will be near 72 with partly sunny skies and a north northeast wind of 5 to 11 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Nice weather will continue on Tuesday before light April showers are possible Tuesday night and Wednesday. No hazardous weather is expected, however, the weather service said. No freezing temperatures are in this week’s forecast.

Tonight, the low will be around 46 with mostly clear skies and a north northeast wind of 5 to 7 mph, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, the high will be near 73 with sunny skies and a north wind of 5 to 7 mph, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 48 with a north northwest wind of 7 mph.

Wednesday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers with a high of 61, the weather service said, and a north wind of 7 to 9 mph.

Wednesday night, the low will be around 42 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Thursday, the high will be near 66 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Thursday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers before 1 a.m., with a low of 42, according to the weather service.

Friday, expect sunny skies and a high near 63, the weather service said.

Friday night, the low will be around 43 with clear skies, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny with a high near 69, the weather service said.

Saturday night, the low will be around 49 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.

Sunday, the high will be near 75 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Wyandotte County students compete in Kansas Relays

Several students from Wyandotte County high schools participated in the Kansas Relays on Friday and Saturday at Kansas University’s Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kan. The prestigious annual track and field competition draws high school athletes from several states and also features a college competition.

Notable results included a sixth place finish in the long jump by Sumner Academy junior Nahshon Houston, with a jump of 21 feet, 5 1/2 inches.
