Bomber history project to be topic at Fairfax meeting Jan. 11

The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet for a luncheon from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Central Solutions, 401 Funston Road, Kansas City, Kansas.

Dan Desko, with the B-25 bomber history project, will speak on the history of the B-25 bomber, which was built in Fairfax.

Tickets to the luncheon are $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Reservations may be made by 3 p.m. Jan. 9 to Melissa Clark at [email protected].

Temperatures will warm up to 24 this afternoon

The wind chill reading was zero at 9 a.m. Thursday in Wyandotte County, with a temperature outdoors of 10 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, it will warm up to about 24 degrees this afternoon.

High temperatures will remain between the teens and 20s through Friday with lows dipping into the subzero to single-digit range, the weather service stated.

Above freezing temperatures are expected to return this weekend, along with some possibility of precipitation from Sunday into Monday morning. Most of the precipitation will be rain, except for a chance of mixed wintry precipitation over central and northern parts of the region Sunday morning, before it turns to rain, according to the forecast.

Today, skies will be mostly sunny with a high of 24 and a light and variable wind, the weather service said.

Tonight, the low will be around 10 with partly cloudy skies and a wind chill between zero and 5, according to the weather service. There will be an east southeast wind of 3 to 8 mph.

Friday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 25 and an east northeast wind of 5 to 7 mph, the weather service said.

Friday night, the low will be around 9 with partly cloudy skies and an east northeast wind of 5 to 7 mph, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 31 and a southeast wind of 5 to 7 mph, the weather service said.

Saturday night, there will be a 20 percent chance of showers after midnight, with a low of 29, according to the weather service.

Sunday, there is a 90 percent chance of showers with a high of 43, the weather service said.

Sunday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers before midnight, with a low of 27, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 42, the weather service said.

Monday night, the low will be around 24 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, expect a high of 42 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Police investigating homicide at 10th and Ivandale

Kansas City, Kansas, police are investigating a homicide near 10th and Ivandale in the early morning hours Thursday.

A police spokesman stated that officers responded to a shooting at about 3:46 a.m. Jan. 4. When they arrived, they saw a pickup truck in the middle of 10th Street occupied by a man in his mid-50s, who had been shot, the spokesman stated.

The victim was rushed to an area hospital where he died from his injuries, according to police. The spokesman stated the shooting is thought to have happened near 10th and Montana.

The identity of the victim is being withheld until there is positive identification and family notification, according to police.
