Leavenworth Road Association to meet Jan. 9

The Leavenworth Road Association will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd St., Kansas City, Kansas.

A potluck dinner at 6 p.m. will be followed by a meeting at 7 p.m. The Leavenworth Road Association will provide fried chicken, and those attending may bring a dish to share with the group.

The scheduled guest speaker is unable to attend because of an illness.

Carla Dods with Shockey Consulting will give an update on the next Welborn Lake improvement meeting, tentatively scheduled for Jan. 30.

Art show reception planned today

An opening reception for an art show by a Kansas City, Kansas, artist will be held today.

The art reception for Christine Rupert will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Savory Spice Shop, 6424 Brookside Blvd., Kansas City, Mo.

Works in the show include watercolors, acrylics, colored pencils and pastels.

Temperatures warmer than expected; morning here includes rain, not ice

Light icing is now expected to the east of Kansas City, Mo., according to the National Weather Service, as temperatures warmed faster than expected this morning.

Temperatures were 38 degrees at 8 a.m. in Wyandotte County, according to the weather service.

Little to no icing is expected in the Kansas City area and west of here, the weather service stated.

To the east, near Carrolton and Sedalia, Mo., icing can be up to a tenth of an inch, which will be possible before temperatures rise above the freezing level later this afternoon, according to the weather service.

With cold road surface temperatures across the area, any icing could result in hazardous travel east of Kansas City, Mo., according to the weather service.

Today, there is a 90 percent chance of rain in Wyandotte County, the weather service said. A south wind 5 to 9 mph will become light south southwest in the afternoon. Between a tenth and quarter inch of precipitation is possible. The high was expected to be in the high 30s.

Tonight, there is a slight chance of drizzle before 9 p.m., with a low of 28, according to the weather service. A light and variable wind will become northwest 5 to 7 mph in the evening.
