Voters showing interest in today’s election

About 16.3 percent of the registered voters, about 12,663 persons, had already voted by about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, according to Wyandotte County Election Commissioner Bruce Newby.

He said his prediction for this election was about 20 percent, plus or minus 2, and there is probably enough time to get to that mark today.

Four years ago, turnout in the 2013 general election was 20.6 percent, he said.

With all of the interest in the mayoral contest this year, he added he was hoping for a higher turnout.

Polls will be open until 7 p.m. in Wyandotte County. Registered voters should bring their driver’s license or other approved photo identification with them to vote. Polling place locations are online at https://myvoteinfo.voteks.org/VoterView.

Public meeting planned Wednesday on changes to county’s emergency plan

Wyandotte County will accept comments on its County Emergency Operations Plans changes during a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Neighborhood Resource Center, 4953 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

According to information from the Unified Government, the county is required by the state to rewrite its emergency operations plans every five years. These plans include policies and procedures that will be used during an emergency.

Residents may discuss their concerns or ask questions during the meeting Nov. 8.

The emergency plan can be found on our website at http://www.wycokck.org/Emergency/Plans.aspx.

The documents are still in draft form with small format changes being made daily, according to a UG spokesman. For the past few months, changes have been discussed at UG standing committee meetings.

The plan is scheduled for adoption in early December by the Unified Government Commission.
