A Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Davern Hall, 3024 N. 53rd St., Kansas City, Kansas. Proceeds from the breakfast will go toward Project Grad at Bishop Ward High School.

Holy Family Catholic Church will hold a dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the parish cafeteria at 1007 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas. The Holy Name Divas are sponsoring the dinner to raise funds for scholarships and for church remodeling. The meal will cost $7 and will include tacos and tostadas. There will be music by Stranded in the City.

Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan., will meet from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, Oct. 19, to plan for the 160th anniversary celebration of the parish. The church was founded in 1857 and is among the oldest Episcopal churches in the Diocese of Kansas. Parish members will attend the 158th annual convention of the diocese Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20 and 21, in Topeka. The parish will observe the twentieth Sunday after Pentecost at 10 a.m. Oct. 22.

Renaissance Festival continues Sunday

Candidate forums to be Oct. 17, 18
Business West, in cooperation other neighborhood and business organizations and Kansas City Kansas Community College, will sponsor candidates’ forums from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, and Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Upper Jewell building at the Community College. The candidates running for Mayor, Sheriff, Unified Government Commissioner and the Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Public Utilities will appear Tuesday, Oct. 17. Candidates running for the Community College Board of Trustees and the Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Education will appear Wednesday, Oct. 18. Candidates will present introductory remarks and then answer questions from a panel. The forums will be taped and replayed on Channel 17, the community college’s public access channel on the Spectrum system. The general election will be Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Women’s Chamber offers scholarship fundraising event Oct. 18
“Purses with a Purpose” will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the Kansas City Kansas Community College Tech Center, 6565 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Sponsored by the Kansas City, Kansas, Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the event features guest speaker, Danni Boatwright, a local business owner. There will be a silent auction and purses, accessories and other items for purchase, with proceeds going toward a scholarship fund for nontraditional women students in Kansas City.

BPU to meet Oct. 18
The Board of Public Utilities board will meet Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the BPU offices at 540 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

Candidate forum to be held Oct. 20
A candidate forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Blessed Sacrament Family Center gym, 2215 Parallel Ave. Candidates were invited for mayor, sheriff, UG Commission, District 1, BPU at large District 1, and Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Education. The forum is sponsored by Unity with Purpose and Forum Partners.

Democrats to meet Saturday
A breakfast buffet and program is set for the Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast on Saturday morning, Oct. 21, at the Las Islas Marias, 7516 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The breakfast buffet will be available at 8 a.m., and the program is at 9 a.m. All candidates who are Democratic registered voters and are on the Nov. 7 ballot are invited to speak at this event. There is a time limit for each candidate. The program is open to all Democrats. The breakfast will cost $10, or $6 for students and those on limited incomes. There is a $2 charge for coffee for those not purchasing breakfast. Those attending this event are not required to purchase a breakfast. A Community Blood Center blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Central Solutions, 401 Funston Road, in the conference room, Kansas City, Kansas. Boo Bash to be Oct. 28 at Bonner Springs Library
The 5th annual Boo Bash is planned Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Bonner Springs City Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs. The event, for all ages, is from noon to 2 p.m. A disc jockey will play “terrifying” tunes, scary stories will be told by the fireplace, pumpkin decorating, games and candy, are part of the events. The Central Avenue Betterment Association is planning a Day of the Dead parade and celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, from 6th to 16th streets on Central Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.
