Three races this weekend at Kansas Speedway

Three races are scheduled this weekend at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.

The ARCA Racing Series, Kansas 150, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series, Kansas Lottery 300, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, Hollywood Casino 400, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22.

Driver introductions are usually a half-hour before the race starts.

Parking lots for fan parking will open at 8 a.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Fans are asked to arrive early to go through screening.

Tickets for the races are available by calling 866-460-RACE, online at www.kansasspeedway.com, at the Kansas Speedway ticket office, 400 Speedway Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and on the day of the race at the ticket booth at Gate B, including at 9 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Security to be in place for Speedway races

Race weekend is coming up at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, and security will be strict, according to officials.

There may be increased wait times entering the gates, and additional personal screening processes similar to those at Kauffman Stadium, Arrowhead Stadium and the Sprint Center. There also will be bag and cooler checks.
Kansas Speedway has a strict no-weapons policy, according to officials.

Fans are advised to arrive early on race day. Wait times at grandstand gates may see an increase from increased screenings, officials said.

Fans entering the FanWalk and FanWalk pedestrian tunnel will be screened, and bags and coolers will be checked, according to officials.

For the infield tunnel, persons should expect to see vehicle searches, including X-ray inspections, occurring throughout the weekend, according to officials.

Teaching fellows program provides opportunity to become a teacher

A local program will use corporate skills in the teaching profession.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools Teaching Fellows program provides an opportunity to join the teaching profession, preparing future generations for success.

The school district is recruiting high-performing individuals from other careers to be part of this program, which began in year 2000. So far, 200 persons have graduated from the program and gone on to teach in the district.

A variety of teacher positions are available in science, math, English (English language arts), engineering, technology and information systems, and finance-accounting.

Through this program there are two alternative paths to becoming a teacher in one of the school district’s classrooms – the KCKPS Certificate, and the Master’s of Art in Teaching.

Those interested may learn about details and ask questions about the Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools Teaching Fellows program by attending an information session to be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Central Office and Training Center, 2010 N. 59th St. The remaining sessions are Thursday, Nov. 9; Tuesday, Jan. 9; Thursday, Jan. 25; and Wednesday, Feb. 21.
