Michael Self won the ARCA Kansas 150 race on Friday night at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.

The No. 28 Toyota driver, from Utah, outran Ty Majewski from Wisconsin and Zane Smith from California for the victory.

Also on Friday, ARCA awarded its season championship to Austin Theriault, who finished 25th on Friday. Riley Herbst was named ARCA Rookie of the Year.

Racing continues at 2 p.m. Saturday with the NASCAR XFINITY Series, Kansas Lottery 300, at the Kansas Speedway, and on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. with the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, Hollywood Casino 400 race. Fans are asked to arrive early and allow extra time for screening.

Democrats to meet Saturday
A breakfast buffet and program is set for the Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast on Saturday morning, Oct. 21, at the Las Islas Marias, 7516 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The breakfast buffet will be available at 8 a.m., and the program is at 9 a.m. All candidates who are Democratic registered voters and are on the Nov. 7 ballot are invited to speak at this event. There is a time limit for each candidate. The program is open to all Democrats. The breakfast will cost $10, or $6 for students and those on limited incomes. There is a $2 charge for coffee for those not purchasing breakfast. Those attending this event are not required to purchase a breakfast. Yoga in nature program planned
A family yoga program outdoors is planned from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library, 4051 West Drive, inside Wyandotte County Lake Park at 91st and Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kansas. The class is for all ages and any level of experience, from beginner to advanced. If the weather is not suitable outdoors, the class will be moved indoors. Those attending should bring a yoga mat or large towel.

NAACP convention continues Saturday
The 74th annual convention of the Kansas NAACP is continuing on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Metropolitan Baptist Temple, 853 Washington Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas. The theme is “Steadfast and Immovable.” There are workshops planned. Khyla Craine, NAACP assistant general counsel, will be the keynote speaker of the Freedom Fund Lunch and Learn at noon Saturday. Dracula comedy continues tonight
“Dracula, the Final Countdown,” a comedy by Geoff Bamber, continues tonight at the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The retelling of the old Dracula story will include twists that give a different turn to the story. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $6 for students. Funds raised will go toward paying the bills at the Alcott Center. The art galleries at the Alcott Center also will be open. The building is not ADA accessible. Pedestrian dies after traffic accident at 7th and Metropolitan

A pedestrian died after being struck about 8:46 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at South 7th Street and Metropolitan Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, according to a police spokesman.

When officers arrived at the accident, they found a man in his late 30s, who had been struck by a vehicle in the roadway, the spokesman said.

An initial investigation found that a vehicle southbound on 7th Street struck the pedestrian in the road, the spokesman said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the accident scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

The identity of the victim will not be released until there is positive identification and family notification.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit-Critical Collision Response Team is investigating.
