How much is gas?

Gas prices jumped throughout the nation and in Wyandotte County following Hurricane Harvey’s damage to oil refining in Texas.

The national average was $2.36 per gallon for regular gas on Monday, according to AAA’s gas report, and Kansas City, Kansas was trending higher, increasing about 29 cents a gallon from last week.

On Monday evening, gas was $2.37 a gallon at the Conoco on South 7th Street and Kansas Avenue; $2.46 at the Sinclair at South 7th Street between Osage and Miami avenues, $2.47 at the Phillips 66 station on State Avenue near North 75th Place, and $2.47 at the Quik Trip near North 78th and Elizabeth.

AAA said today was one of the largest gas price hikes seen this summer, according to a news release. It is caused by Hurricane Harvey putting about one-fourth of the oil refining capability in the Gulf Coast out of commission, according to AAA.

One week ago, according to AAA, the average price of gasoline in Kansas City, Kansas, was $2.18 a gallon for regular. A year ago, the cost of gasoline was about $2.17 a gallon here.
