Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a fire today.
According to a social media post by Fire Chief John Paul Jones, the firefighters were at a house fire at 4:39 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, in the 500 block of Orville Avenue.
Firefighters saw fire showing when they arrived at the location, and brought the fire under control, according to the chief.
The Kansas City T-Bones evened the series with the Gary SouthShore Railcats on Saturday night, with a 3-2 win at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas.
With a win Friday, the Railcats took over second place in the central division from the T-Bones, and Kansas City wasn’t going to put itself any farther behind. But with Kansas City’s win Saturday, the team is back in second place in the division and first in the wild card spot.
Kyle Petty got things started with a single to center field scoring Kevin Keyes, putting the T-Bones up 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
Things were pretty quiet until the fifth inning, when Gary’s second baseman Cole Fabio’s sacrifice fly scored designated hitter Ryan Fitzgerald to tie the game, 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Keyes singled to center scoring center fielder Cedric Hunter. Right fielder Dexter Kjerstad followed right after with another single to left field to add a run from Marcus Lemon putting the T-Bones up 3-1.
T-Bones starter Luis Paula gave up three hits, two walks and had five strikeouts. Reliever Grant Sides came in during the seventh inning, retiring shortstop Andy De Jesus.
Jeff Walters gave up one hit in a scoreless top eighth inning and Cody Winiarski came in the ninth to secure his 17th save of the season. Paula (5-2, 3.26), picked up the win for the T-Bones and left-handed pitcher Alex Gunn (7-5, 3.49) suffered the loss for Gary.
The T-Bones (48-37) played at 1:05 p.m. Sunday against the RailCats (47-37) at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Sporting KC came away from Saturday evening’s match against Dallas FC with a confident 2 – 0 victory and three points that put them back atop the standings in the MLS Western Conference.
Dallas and Sporting Kansas City traded attacking runs in the first 30 minutes with neither side able to gain an advantage.
In the late stages of the first half, Sporting turned up the pressure, moving the ball around the Dallas end with accurate passing. The pressure finally paid off with a Diego Rubio goal in the 42nd minute, played in off a Graham Zusi corner kick.
Sporting avoided late-game drama with offense and defense in the closing minutes of the second half. Goalkeeper Tim Melia made a diving save to keep the one goal advantage.
A few minutes later, in stoppage time, late-game substitute Gerso outran his defender to put a long Graham Zusi pass into the upper left corner of the goal from just inside the penalty area.
Sporting KC now holds a three-point advantage over rivals Houston, Portland and Seattle for the top position in the Western Conference.
Sporting goes on the road to Houston, New York FC, and Columbus before returning home on Sept. 19 against the New England Revolution.
