A preview of the Renaissance Festival was held Aug. 24 and included some of the highlights for this year.
The event will open Sept. 2 and runs on weekends, plus Labor Day and Columbus Day, through Oct. 15. The festival site is located at 130th and State Avenue in Bonner Springs.
A long-time tradition is soon to open. The tradition I am talking about is the Kansas City Renaissance Festival.
The Kansas City Renaissance Festival is one of the oldest in the United States, celebrating its 41st season.
The festival opens Sept. 2 and will be open on weekends through Oct. 15, plus Labor Day and Columbus Day, at 130th and State Avenue in Bonner Springs, Kan. It is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
An estimated 75,000 turkey legs are sold during the festival.
I can remember how I enjoyed going to the Renaissance Festival, as a young man. I can remember such people as the “Tickle Meister.” Believe it or not, he is still there.
The food this year includes such things as a spam sandwich. You might not think that is a Renaissance item. On the contrary, it is. A version was first developed in the medieval period; however, it wasn’t called spam.
Another unique item this year is the funnel cake fries. They melt in your mouth. The lobster sandwich is to die for.
This year there are a lot of new vendors with items for sale.
If you want to go to a place where you can take the whole family, that offers great food and entertainment, and hard-to-find items, definitely go to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. There are discount coupons at various locations in the Kansas City area, or go to the website, www.kcrenfest.com.
The BPU Employee Charity Golf Corp. will hold its Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Dub’s Dread Golf Course in Kansas City, Kansas.
As part of its on-going commitment to the community, BPU employees sponsor and hold this annual golf event which so far has raised over $500,000 for children’s charities and nonprofits in Wyandotte County.
There is still time to register to play in this year’s annual tournament.
Those who have played before and want to again may register. The tournament starts at 8 a.m. Sept. 9. The entry fee is $95.
Sponsor and prize donations are being accepted, also.
The golf registration and sponsorship forms are available on the BPU’s website under the “About” section at www.bpu.com.
Community nonprofit organizations that benefit children and youth may apply for funding through this golf tournament by using a form from the BPU.
