Hospital group CEO announces retirement

The retirement of Randall G. “Randy” Nyp, chief executive officer for the Prime Healthcare Kansas City market, was announced recently.

Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, is part of the Prime Healthcare Kansas City market, along with Saint John Hospital, Leavenworth; St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo.; and St. Mary’s Medical Center, Blue Springs, Mo.

Nyp has more than 45 years of health care experience with 30 years in executive leadership roles. Over the years, his strategy has been to implement strategic plans to improve organizational productivity and deepen relationships within the communities he serves.

His career spans from his start at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka to chief financial officer of St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado, before becoming president and CEO of Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita. In 2005, Nyp moved across country to accept the role of senior vice president and chief operating officer at the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He returned home to his Kansas roots in 2011 to assume leadership for Providence and Saint John and assumed his leadership position with St. Joseph and St. Mary in the fall of 2016.

“After 45 years in healthcare, I have decided it is time to slow life down a bit,” Nyp said. “My wife, Susie and I have been blessed with our 13 grandchildren. We would like to spend more time with all of them and take time to travel together.”

Karen Orr, RN., MSN, MBA has been named administrator at Providence Medical Center. The other Kansas City Prime Healthcare hospitals will continue to be led by Jodi Fincher, administrator (St. Joseph Medical Center); Deb Ohnoutka, CEO (St. Mary’s Medical Center); and Paula Ellis, CNO administer (Saint John Hospital).

Five Wyandotte County students on Washburn’s dean’s list

Five Wyandotte County students have been named to the spring 2017 dean’s list at Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas.

To qualify for the dean’s list, students must be enrolled in 12 hours of graded credits and earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 to 3.99.

Candidate forum planned tonight for mayor, sheriff candidates

A candidate forum is planned from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at the upper Jewell building at Kansas City Kansas Community College, 7250 State Ave.

Candidates for Unified Government mayor and Wyandotte County sheriff will appear at the forum.

The forum tonight is sponsored by Business West, the Central Avenue Betterment Association, Kansas City Kansas Community College and the Historic Northeast-Midtown Association.

Candidates for the Unified Government Commission and the Board of Public Utilities are scheduled to appear at the forum on Wednesday, July 18, at KCKCC.

The community college is expected to tape the forum to be played back on Channel 17, the school’s public access channel on the Spectrum cable system, and Channel 146 on the Google TV system.

Another candidate forum is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church, 2200 N. 53rd St.

The primary election is Tuesday, Aug. 1, and the general election is Tuesday, Nov. 7.
