Stabbing victim in 3000 block of Parkwood dies

A stabbing victim in the 3000 block of Parkwood Boulevard has died from his injuries, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman.

The victim was identified by police as Cornelius Felton, 31, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas.

About 10:15 p.m. Saturday, July 22, police were called to the scene and discovered a man in his early 30s with apparent stab wounds, who they later identified as Felton.

He was taken to a hospital and later died from his injuries, according to the spokesman. A person of interest has been taken into custody.

The case is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, which is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

UG plans public hearing on budget on Monday, July 24

A Unified Government budget meeting is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 24, when a public hearing will be held on the UG and CDBG budget, according to the UG agenda.

The budget public hearing is expected to be held in the Commission Chambers, lobby level, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

After the hearing, a budget workshop could be held, if necessary. The budget is scheduled to be adopted at a UG meeting July 27.

BPU reports 6,300 customers still without power

The Board of Public Utilities reports that there are still 6,300 customers without power and crews are working to restore them as quickly and safely as possible.

A spokesman said restoration efforts will last all day at the very least.
