More Amazon job fairs planned this week

The second week of Amazon job fairs will be held Wednesday, June 7, and Thursday, June 8, in Kansas City, Kansas.

Amazon is hiring for warehouse jobs starting at about $12 an hour, according to a flier. Job applicants may learn more about the jobs at job fairs scheduled throughout Wyandotte County.

According to the flier, the next job fair will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at McKinley Elementary School, 1301 Armstrong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

Another Amazon job fair will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 8 at Frank Rushton Elementary School, 2605 W. 43rd Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

About 1,000 warehouse jobs are expected to open at the new Amazon warehouse facility near 69th and Riverview Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.

According to the flier, benefits will include a 401(k) match, a stock award program, tuition assistance program, and employee discount.

T-Bones’ Correa to go to Colorado team

The Kansas City T-Bones announced that catcher Christian Correa has been sold to the Colorado Rockies organization.

Christian Correa, joined Kansas City on May 17, after beginning the year with the Houston Astros High A Club Buies Creek in the Carolina League. Correa played in eight games for Kansas City this season, hitting .215 with one home run and five RBIs. His one homer was an inside the park round trip May 30th at Gary SouthShore.

Correa, was a non-drafted free agent for Houston out of Nicholls State University (Louisiana) and spent parts of three season with the Astros, before joining the T-Bones. The native of Coconut Creek, Florida, hit .203 with the Houston organization with five home runs and 28 RBIs in 106 games.

Behind the plate, Correa caught 46 percent (18 of 39) of base runners in 2016 and caught three this season in 15 attempts for Kansas City. He was the opening night starter for Kansas City going 1-for-2 in his T-Bones debut.

Correa is the 28th T-Bones player whose contract has been sold to a major-league organization, and fourth since the end of the 2016 season. In October, the Miami Marlins purchased outfielder Dalton Wheat’s contract, and then the Colorado Rockies purchased pitcher David Holman’s contract in December. In February, left-handed pitcher Mike Kickham was sold to the Miami Marlins.

The T-Bones return home for a six game home stand starting Monday, June 5, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The action can be heard on the T-Bones Broadcast Network online at tbonesbaseball.com.

Two KCK students named to honors list at Concordia University

Concordia University, Nebraska named two Kansas City, Kansas, students to its honors list for the spring 2017 semester.
To be on the honors list, students have to be in the top 25 percent of all undergraduate students and complete at least 12 credit hours.

Named to the honors list from Kansas City, Kansas, were Olivia Johnson and Scott Johnson.

Concordia University is located in Seward, Neb., and serves more than 2,600 students. It was founded in 1894.
