Motorist dies in wrong-way accident at I-635 and Leavenworth Road

A driver died in a wrong-way accident at 12:50 a.m. Saturday, June 24, on I-635 and Leavenworth Road, according to police.

According to an initial Kansas City, Kansas, police investigation, a black sport utility vehicle was traveling southbound, the wrong way, on northbound I-635.

The vehicle collided with another black sport utility vehicle that was heading north on I-635, police stated.

The driver of the first vehicle was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the second vehicle was found dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, a police spokesman stated.

The identity of the fatal victim will be released after there is positive identification and notification, according to police.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit – Critical Collision Response Team is investigating.
