Civitan Club plans meeting Wednesday

A new Civitan Club in Kansas City, Kansas, plans to meet at 6 p.m. April 12 at The Dotte Spot, 8123 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas.

The new club, the Lancaster-Melton Peace Keepers Civitan Club, is named in honor of the memory of Detective Brad Lancaster and Capt. Robert Melton of the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. The club also honors the memory of other officers who have served in the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, as well as current officers in this and other agencies in the metropolitan area. The club also welcomes people who have a “pay it forward” outlook on community service.

The Lancaster-Melton Peace Keepers Civitan Club is sponsored by the Lawrence ACTION Civitan Club. A spokesman said the club’s main objectives are to keep the two officers’ memory alive by working together on projects that improve the community, increase the knowledge and support of law enforcement officers in the community, as well as supporting positive efforts to help make the community a better place to live, work, and play.

Civitan Club membership is open to all community members who are at least 18 years old and of good character. The club’s next organizational meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. on April 12 at The Dotte Spot, 8123 Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas. The meeting should be over at about 7:30 p.m.
