KCK motorcyclist dies in I-70 accident

A 37-year-old motorcyclist died in an accident at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, April 16, on westbound I-70 at Minnesota Avenue, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

Casey Bezdek, 37, of Kansas City, Kansas, was driving a 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when the accident occurred, according to the trooper’s report.

He was westbound on I-70 when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle’s rear tire started to drift, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver lost control and struck the concrete bridge rail, according to the trooper’s report. Then the impact caused the driver to be ejected over the bridge rail. He fell about 90 feet, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver was wearing a helmet and eye protection, the trooper’s report said.

Storms, heavy rain possible tonight

A cold front will push through the region late Saturday night, fueling a line of scattered to numerous storms that will move southeast through the evening hours, the National Weather Service said.

A few of these storms may become strong to severe, according to the weather service.

Isolated instances of large hail and localized damaging wind gusts are the main hazards, the weather service said. Locally heavy rainfall is also possible.

The weather service said there is a 90 percent chance of showers and possibly a storm, mainly before 3 a.m. More showers and storms are possible after 3 a.m.

Tonight’s low will be around 58, with a south southwest wind of 7 to 14 mph becoming north northwest after midnight, and winds may gust as high as 20 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Easter Sunday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 71, the weather service said. A northeast wind will be 7 to 9 mph.

Sunday night, there is a 40 percent chance of rain and storms, mostly after 2 a.m. The low will be around 54. An east wind of 5 to 7 mph is in the forecast. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.
