Indy to visit KCKCC Thursday; sophomores to be honored Friday

Kansas City Kansas Community College will close out its home softball schedule this week with three doubleheaders including Sophomore Day Friday.

Swept at Johnson County Tuesday, the Lady Blue Devils will close out Jayhawk Conference play against Independence Thursday at 2 p.m. and then honor their sophomores when they entertain Cottey College Friday at 3 p.m. The home finale will come Sunday against a University of Kansas club team.

Ranked No. 9 nationally, Johnson County (24-5) blanked the Blue Devils 9-0 in the first game and then got a walk-off 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the second game 8-6. The losses left KCKCC 16-20 on the season and 10th in the 12-team conference at 6-14,

The Blue Devils boast two of the top five hitters in the Jayhawk. Going into the JCCC doubleheader, Basehor-Linwood freshman Allison Kasick was third in the conference with a .473 batting average with Turner sophomore Kaylynn Stratton fifth at .457.

Grinter Barn plans ‘Ladies Night Out’ April 20

Grinter Barn, 1400 S. 78th St., is holding a “Ladies Night Out” from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20.

The event includes a wine tasting from Rowe Ridge Winery, with two wine tastings included.

Those attending the event may visit more than 20 vendors.

Admission to the event is $5. This price includes samples of food, cheese, crackers and drinks. Those attending may get a massage for $1 per minute from Body Works.
