UG committees scheduled to meet today

Unified Government committees are scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Monday, April 24, in the fifth floor conference room, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

On the Public Works and Safety Committee agenda at 5 p.m. today is a resolution declaring the necessity and authorizing a survey of electrical distribution and transmission lines both above and below ground on Leavenworth Road from 38th Street to 63rd Street. It would direct the UG’s attorneys to authorize a survey and description of land parcels affected, and an ordinance could be drawn up for eminent domain to complete the acquisition of parcels.

Also on the agenda is an update and discussion on fiber network for police body cameras and for the UG.

Also to be discussed is the Turkey Creek flood reduction project and an overview of the flood warning system implemented last year for Turkey Creek.

The UG Administration and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet at 5:15 p.m. tonight in the fifth floor conference room at City Hall.

The agenda includes a request for extended transit service and funding for service costs for bus service to the new Amazon Fulfillment Center under construction on the Turner Diagonal in Kansas City, Kansas. The preliminary estimate for the bus service to Amazon would be $265,000, according to the agenda.

Also on the agenda is a grant application for a three-year, $1.5 million teen pregnancy prevention federal grant from the UG Health Department.

A proposed resolution that would exclude a portion of Holliday Drive from the boundaries of Kansas City, Kansas, is also on the agenda. If it is approved, it would go to the Planning Commission at 6:30 p.m. June 12 for a public hearing.

There also is a recommendation on the committee agenda to designate I-70 to Central Avenue, 18th Street to Grandview Boulevard, as a Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area as part of the revised five-year consolidated plan to be submitted to Housing and Urban Development.
