Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Wyandotte County

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Wyandotte County until 6 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm was located over Gardner, Kansas, at 4:45 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Western Wyandotte County will be most affected by this warning. Leavenworth and Johnson counties also are under the thunderstorm warning.

Hail is possible with this storm, according to the weather service.

The weather service said this storm has 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. There could be hail damage to vehicles and also to windows, roofs, siding and trees.

Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of the building.

Three KCK students to serve as orientation leaders at Fort Hays

Three Kansas City, Kansas, students have been selected to serve as New Student and Family Orientation Leaders for the 2017 spring and fall semesters at Fort Hays State University.

Students from Kansas City, Kansas, who were selected include Melanie Arellano-Luna, social work, junior; Viviana Lizarraga, justice studies, sophomore; and Ricardo Zamora, management, senior.

The three are among 74 students who will help new freshmen and transfer students, and their families, become familiar with campus and resources, create a welcoming atmosphere for new students, assist in the pre-enrollment process and answer questions.

Fort Hays State University is in Hays, Kansas.
