Leavenworth man sentenced to 20 years for distributing child pornography

A Leavenworth man who bragged on the Internet about sexually abusing a 4-year-old girl was sentenced Monday to 20 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said.

Joshua Grimm, 33, Leavenworth, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of distributing child pornography. Which should be looked at differently to regular pornography from sites similar to TubeV.

At sentencing, a prosecutor said the investigation started in June 2016 when Grimm began communicating with a detective in Arizona who was working undercover. In a chatroom conversation, Grimm told the detective Grimm had sexually abused a 4-year-old-girl and he sent a photo of the girl. At the time, child molestation charges were pending against Grimm.

Grimm told the detective he had “thought about kidnapping a young girl from a park or busy store.”

Beall commended the FBI, an Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in Arizona and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim Flannigan for their work on the case.

KCKCC plans ShamRock Games March 8

Kansas City Kansas Community College’s Wellness and Fitness Center is asking everyone how far they can throw a Shamrock in preparation for the center’s fourth-annual ShamRock Games.

The ShamRock Games are from 11a.m. to 1p.m. March 8 at the KCKCC Wellness and Fitness Center, on the campus at 7250 State Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

“The ShamRock Games are a great way for our students to interact with our staff, faculty and community members in a competitive environment,” said Joseph Mundt, wellness specialist at the KCKCC Wellness and Fitness Center. “The contest is a score prediction competition, which makes it an even playing field for older or younger age groups.”

Games include ShamRockin Bowl, the Pot of Gold Toss, Leprechaun Hat Catch, the Gold Coin Fling, ShamRakin, the ShamRock Obstacle Course and the ShamRock Race. The top finishers will receive a prize. However, participants must attempt all activities to get a final score. Donations will also be accepted for the American Cancer Society of Kansas City.

“Many of our participants have said while participating, ‘I haven’t done this stuff since I was a kid,’” Mundt said. “I think the ShamRock Games gives people a small change from their regular workout routine, which sometimes is the change they need to kick their workout up to the next gear.”

For more information or to register for the KCKCC ShamRock Games, visit the KCKCC Wellness and Fitness Center or call 913-288-7610. Be prepared to go outside for a few of the events.
