Kansas City, Kansas, firefighters responded to a house fire \on March 22.
The fire was in the 2400 block of Elmwood, according to fire officials. The was extinguished quickly, officials stated.

Storms in today’s forecast
Two primary rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected today, the National Weather Service said.
The First will occur during the late morning into the afternoon. This will probably be the most widespread rainfall today, according to the weather service.
A second round of storms will develop over eastern Kansas during the evening hours, the weather service said. Some of these storms will have the potential to become strong to severe.
A slight risk of severe weather is located to the south of the Kansas City area. A few stronger storms are possible, the weather service said.
If storms become strong to briefly severe, hazards include gusty winds and hail up to 1 inch in diameter.
The forecast for Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, calls for a slight chance of showers before 10 a.m., then the chance of showers and thunderstorms increases to 70 percent between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and showers and a thunderstorm are possible after 2 p.m. The high will be near 71, with a south wind of 10 to 16 mph, gusting as high as 36 mph. Between a tenth and a quarter of an inch of rain is possible.
Tonight, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 p.m., then showers and a possible thunderstorm after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 51, with a southeast wind of 5 to 8 mph becoming north after midnight. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.
Saturday, expect a 60 percent chance of showers mainly before 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 56. A north northwest wind will be from 8 to 10 mph. Between a tenth and a quarter-inch of rain is possible.
Saturday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers before 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 44, with a north northwest wind of 5 to 9 mph.
Sunday, expect partly sunny skies with a high of 64, the weather service said. There will be a northwest wind of 3 to 5 mph.
Sunday night, there is an 80 percent chance of showers, according to the weather service. The low will be around 49. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.
Monday, expect a 50 percent chance of showers before 1 p.m., with a high near 63, the weather service said.

KCK police receive award for traffic safety
The AAA Community Traffic Safety Gold Award was presented to the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department at tonight’s Unified Government Commission meeting.
A Kansas Department of Transportation law enforcement liaison presented the award, remarking that the points for the award were recalculated and the award was upgraded to gold from a previously announced silver.
The KDOT liaison noted that Kansas City, Kansas, has made progress in reducing the number of teens that were not wearing seat belts, and adult seat belt use also was on the rise.
In other action, the UG Commission approved authorization for three grant applications. One is for lead-based paint hazard control, another for the Cambridge Connector Study, and a third for a Fisher Park and West 39th Street planning study.
Also approved were five appointments to boards, without discussion.
UG Administrator Doug Bach explained the reason for canceling the 5 p.m. UG meeting was that the situation has changed since the Mid-America Regional Council did a study of the I-70 and I-670 loop alternative. There was discussion on the Missouri side of the state line about the Broadway Bridge, and MARC was seeing if there were other alternatives. However, the Missouri Department of Transportation recently had some changes to the Broadway bridge project recently, which has caused MARC to go back and determine what it will do.
The meeting, under 15 minutes, was chaired by Mayor Pro Tem Hal Walker. Mayor Mark Holland and Commissioner Mike Kane were not present at the meeting.
