There is a new millionaire after a $1 million winning Powerball ticket sold in northeast Kansas was drawn last night, according to the Kansas Lottery.
The ticket was sold in northeast Kansas, which encompasses 21 counties, including Wyandotte County, according to the lottery.
The first five numbers, but not the Powerball number, were matched to win a $1 million prize. The winning number for the Feb. 22 drawing were 10-13-28-52-61 Powerball 2.
The Powerball jackpot was won in Indiana for $435.3 million, and it was the seventh largest in Powerball history. The Powerball jackpot now returns to $40 million, with a cash option of $24.2 million.
The Mega Millions jackpot in Friday night’s drawing is $64 million, with a cash prize of $38.5 million.
There is a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 11 a.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.
Wyandotte County is on the southern edge of a large area north of I-70 that may see storms today, the weather service stated.
Large hail will be the primary threat of this storm. The wind also may be a factor today, as an east wind from 9 to 14 mph may gust as high as 20 mph, according to the weather service.
As a cold front prepares to move through the area, today’s high will be near 65, with temperatures dropping 20 degrees on Friday. Friday’s high will be 44, and on Friday night, snow is possible, according to the weather service.
Tonight’s forecast is a low of 42, with an east wind of 8 to 13 mph becoming west after midnight, the weather service said.
Friday, expect mostly cloudy skies with a high near 44, according to the weather service. There will be a 20 percent chance of showers after noon. A west wind of 11 to 18 mph may gust as high as 30 mph.
Friday night, residents may want to cover outdoor plants. There will be a 20 percent chance of rain and snow showers before 8 p.m., followed by a slight chance of snow showers between 8 p.m. and midnight, according to the weather service. The low will be around 25. A northwest wind of 13 to 15 mph will gust as high as 28 mph.
Saturday, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 42, the weather service said. A northwest wind of 6 to 13 mph will gust as high as 21 mph.
Saturday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 27, according to the weather service.
Sunday, there is a 40 percent chance of snow showers before 10 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow showers between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., followed by a chance of rain after 11 a.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 48.
Sunday night, expect a 30 percent chance of rain showers, mixing with snow after 11 p.m., then gradually ending, according to the weather service. The low will be around 29.
Monday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 53, the weather service said.
Monday night, the low will be around 42 with mostly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.
A public hearing is scheduled on the Unified Government budget at the UG Commission meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Commission Chambers, lobby level, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan.
At the hearing on the revised 2017 and proposed 2018 budgets, the public will have the opportunity to make comments on budget priorities and initiatives, according to agenda information.
There also will be an opportunity to comment on the 2017-2018 Community Development budget. Another Community Development public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 6, according to the agenda.
Also on Thursday’s agenda is a Quindaro historic preservation grant application. The UG would be a partner in submitting an application, with the Freedoms Frontier National Heritage Area, to the Kansas Historic Preservation Grant Fund. If approved, the grant funds would hire a consultant and research firm in order to begin a local initiative to qualify the area for national historic landmark status with the National Parks Service, according to the agenda.
Several Land Bank items also are on the agenda, along with other items.
There is also a special meeting that was scheduled for 5 p.m. on the fifth floor of City Hall. A financial forecast is the topic of the 5 p.m. meeting. According to a meeting notice, the UG Commission will go into a closed, executive session to discuss litigation property acquisition after the 5 p.m. meeting.
