Warmer temperatures today through Wednesday, followed by cold later in week

The forecast from the National Weather Service calls for warmer temperatures Monday through Wednesday, followed by a cool-off with a winter storm potential later in the week.

Today’s high will be near 44 with partly sunny skies, and a south wind of 5 to 10 mph, increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the afternoon, the weather service said. Winds may gust as high as 26 mph.

Drizzle is possible Monday night into Tuesday morning, while temperatures should remain above freezing, according to the weather service. No hazardous weather is expected with the activity.

On Wednesday evening, there is a chance for a wintry mix north of the Kansas City area, near St. Joseph, Mo., according to the weather service.

The main focus this week is the potential for a winter storm this weekend, which will move into the area Friday, the weather service said. At this time, it appears that precipitation will start out as snow and transition to a wintry mix by Friday night. The wintry mix is expected to continue through the weekend. Dangerous road conditions are possible with this activity.

Tonight, expect patchy drizzle after midnight and patchy fog after 9 p.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 41. A south southwest wind will be 14 to 21 mph, gusting to as high as 29 mph.

Tuesday, patchy drizzle is possible before noon, with widespread fog mainly before 7 a.m., the weather service said. It will be partly sunny with a high near 49. A south southwest wind of 7 to 13 mph will become west northwest in the morning, with winds gusting as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday night, the weather service predicted a low of 34 with partly cloudy skies and a south wind of 5 to 7 mph.

Wednesday, it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 56, according to the weather service. A south wind of 7 to 9 mph will become northwest in the afternoon.

Wednesday night, the low will be around 30 with mostly cloudy skies, the weather service said.

Thursday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 37, according to the weather service.

Thursday night, it will be cloudy with a low near 17, the weather service said.

Friday, there is a 30 percent chance of snow after noon, according to the weather service. It will be cloudy with a high near 26.

Friday night, there is a 50 percent chance of snow, freezing rain and sleet before 2 a.m., then a chance of freezing rain and sleet between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., followed by a chance of sleet after 4 a.m., the weather service said. The low will be around 18.

Saturday, there is a 40 percent chance of freezing rain and sleet, with a high of 29, according to the weather service.

Saturday night, there is a 50 percent chance of freezing rain, with a low of 22, the weather service said.

Sunday, there is a 50 percent chance of rain or freezing rain, with a high of 35, according to the weather service.
