New date set for demolition of Platte Purchase Bridge

A new date has been set for the demolition of the old Platte Purchase Bridge between Wyandotte and Platte counties.

The new demolition date is Thursday, Jan. 12, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Crews will close all lanes of the new U.S. 69 Missouri River bridge from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, for the demolition of the Platte Purchase bridge, a spokesman said.

Southbound U.S. 69 will be closed at I-635, and northbound U.S. 69 will be closed at Kindleberger Road, the spokesman said.

The final section of the Platte Purchase bridge will be detonated, the spokesman said. Viewing will be allowed at the E.H. Young Riverfront Park.

The MoDOT spokesman said motorists will need to find an alternate route on Thursday. The work will be weather-dependent.
