Community writing workshop planned Dec. 13 at Bonner Springs
A community writing workshop facilitated by Anthony Funari will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Bonner Springs City Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs. Members of the community and surrounding area are invited to attend the free workshop. Those who attend should bring a short piece of their writing to the workshop. The community writing workshop is part of a statewide series of programs that celebrate 100 years of the Pulitzer Prizes and the life of William Allen White.

Dialogue continues Dec. 13 on reducing community violence
A dialogue on reducing community violence will continue at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Patricia Diane Kane Community Center, 3130 N. 122nd St., Kansas City, Kan. It is sponsored by the Mayor’s Clergy Roundtable. Those who attend will be in groups of 10 to 15 people with a facilitator assigned to lead the dialogue. Police officers will join in the small group discussions.

Monthly book club to meet

A monthly book club will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. LRA scheduled to meet Dec. 13
The Leavenworth Road Association is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd, Kansas City, Kan. A social hour at 6 p.m. will be followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. The program will be suggestions for 2017 goals and an update on 2016 accomplishments. Card-making class offered

Participants will collaborate in finding ways to connect with their children and form strong bonds. They will share with other parents ways of building a strong foundation with their children. The Grinter Place State Historic Site, 1420 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kan., is one of the oldest homes in the area, built in 1857. Breakfast with Santa planned Dec. 10
Breakfast with Santa is planned from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Turner Recreation, 831 S. 55th, Kansas City, Kan. The charge for the all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast is $5 for those 13 and older, and $4 for those 4 to 12. Children under 3 eat free with the purchase of an adult plate. Children may have their pictures taken with Santa for free.

Ag Hall plans visits with Santa
The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame, 126th and State, Bonner Springs, is planning the Santa Express and visits with Santa Claus this weekend. There will be visits with Santa Claus at the railroad depot, pictures with Santa, games and train rides. Holiday book sale planned
A holiday book sale is planned during library hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Gently used books, including books for children and teens, will be for sale. Paperbacks will be 50 cents each and hardback books will be $1 each. From 4 to 5 p.m. only, fill up a bag with books for $5.

Health and wellness talk planned Saturday
A program on “Personal and Workplace Injury” will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Main Kansas City, Kan., Public Library auditorium, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Dr. Derrick T. Dube, a recent graduate of Cleveland Chiropractic College, will discuss how to prevent and treat injuries at home, work or in the car.

Children, tweens and teens may attend and hear Santa share favorite holiday stories. They also may get their photo taken with Santa. Hot chocolate, treat and a surprise gift also are planned.
