Christmas gifts were stolen from the front porch of Kansas City, Kan., home around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, according to a local resident.

The packages had been dropped off by a postal worker about an hour earlier, when no one was home, according to the resident. A video camera captured pictures of the theft from the front porch.

The resident in the general area of 32nd and State Avenue said she wants to alert other residents and neighbors to the potential of thefts of packages left on the front porch.

The video shows a man in a red or maroon Ford Escape jumping out of the passenger side of the vehicle, walking up the front steps, taking the packages and getting back into the car. It was difficult to see the man’s face in the video; he was wearing a brightly colored stocking cap and black jacket.

The residents have contacted the police, she said. They are trying to decide what other security measures that they will implement at their home in the future.

They’re also trying to figure out what to do about the Christmas gifts for their family, she said. She’s hoping the Christmas gifts can be recovered.

“I think everybody knows it could happen to you,” the resident said, although no one really expects it to.
