Vehicle hits semi and barrier wall on I-70

A Dodge Caliber hit a semi on eastbound I-70 near 18th Street, then the Caliber spun out and hit the barrier wall, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority trooper’s report.

The collision occurred on Dec. 27, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Caliber, a 54-year-old Kansas City, Mo., woman, was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the report.

The driver of the semi, a 30-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man, was not injured, the report stated.

Mild weather conditions continue

After a mild week, there is a chance for some wintry weather to return to the area early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Signals are also starting to point toward a colder and wetter pattern as we go into early to mid-January, the weather service said.

Today, temperatures will reach a high near 52 with mostly sunny skies, according to the weather service. A south southwest wind of 5 to 10 mph will become southwest in the afternoon, and may gust as high as 18 mph.

Tonight, the low will be around 31 with mostly clear skies and a west northwest wind of 6 to 13 mph, the weather service said.

Thursday, the high will be near 45 with sunny skies and a west northwest wind of 13 to 17 mph, gusting as high as 30 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday night, it will be clear with a low of 25, the weather service said. A west northwest wind of 5 to 11 mph will gust as high as 18 mph.

Friday, there will be sunny skies and a high of 51, according to the weather service. A south southwest wind of 5 to 14 mph will gust as high as 28 mph.

Friday night, The low will be around 34 with mostly clear skies, the weather service said.

Saturday, skies will be mostly sunny with a high near 43, according to the weather service.

Saturday night, New Year’s Eve, the forecast is partly cloudy with a low of 26, the weather service said.

Sunday, New Year’s Day, there will be mostly sunny skies and a high near 44, according to the weather service.

Sunday night, there is a 40 percent chance of rain after midnight, mixing with snow after 2 a.m., the weather service said. The low will be around 34 with mostly cloudy skies.

Monday, there will be a 30 percent chance of rain and snow with a high near 47, according to the weather service. Monday night, the low will be around 24.

Tuesday, the high will be near 31 with partly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Funeral service to be Thursday for Gloria Willis

A funeral service will be on Thursday, Dec. 29, for Gloria Willis.

Willis, 85, a long-time member of the Kansas City, Kan., Board of Education and a former teacher and principal, died Thursday, Dec. 22.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Thatcher’s Funeral Home, 1520 N. 5th St., Kansas City, Kan.

Another visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Trinity A.M.E. Church, 2201 N. 5th St., Kansas City, Kan.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Trinity A.M.E. Church, 2201 N. 5th St., Kansas City, Kan.

Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

The family has suggested donations to the “Reasons to Believe Student Scholarship Fund,” in care of the Kansas City, Kan., Schools Foundation for Excellence, 2910 N. 59th St., Kansas City, Kan., 66109.
