Voter registration closes Oct. 18

Time is running out to register to vote for the Nov. 8 general election.

The voter registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 18, in Kansas.

The Wyandotte County Election Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and weekdays at 850 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan., for walk-in voter registration.

To check to see if you are registered to vote, go to the Voter View website at https://myvoteinfo.voteks.org/.

The Voter View website also has the location and address of your polling place. There is also a sample ballot on the Voter View site.

Online voter registration is offered at https://www.kdor.ks.gov/Apps/VoterReg/.

Kansas residents with a current Kansas driver’s license or nondriver’s identification card may register to vote online. If they are already registered, they can update their registration to report a change of address or change of name. Kansas asks for a document to prove citizenship, such as a birth certificate, for first-time voters.

El Centro will sponsor a Get Out the Vote Rally with voter registration booths from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at El Rio Bravo Supermarket, 11 S. 10th St., Kansas City, Kan. It will be a family-friendly event with food and music.

Swindell named honorary starter for Sunday’s NASCAR race at Kansas Speedway

ACM’s 2015 New Artist of the Year Cole Swindell will wave the green flag to start the fifth race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, the Hollywood Casino 400, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16.

The Georgia native, whose current single “Middle of a Memory” is a Top 5 song on country radio and averaging over 2 million streams per week, will release his third extended play record, “Down Home Sessions III” on Oct. 28. Swindell’s Platinum-certified “You Should Be Here” already boasts over 65 million streams, 1 million tracks sold and almost 30 million YouTube views.

Swindell is a record-breaking five-time No. 1 hit maker with Platinum-certified songs “You Should Be Here,” “Hope You Get Lonely,” “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey,” “Chillin’ It,” and Gold-certified “Let Me See Ya Girl.” His second album, “You Should Be Here,” shot to No. 1 on the iTunes Top Country Albums Chart and No. 3 All Genre within hours of its release. Friday’s forecast: A little warmer for weekend

Near normal temperatures will remain in place today, before a warming trend ramps up over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

While there is no rain predicted for race weekend here, there will be high winds at times, according to the forecast.

Today started with some fog over the Wyandotte County area. Later today, temperatures are expected to rise to a high of 68, the weather service said. A light south southeast wind will become south 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

There will be some light showers or drizzle across northwest Missouri Saturday morning, according to the weather service.

Storm chances are possible north of the Missouri River on Saturday night into Sunday, near the Iowa border, the weather service said. No severe weather is anticipated at this time.

Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 63, the weather service said. A south wind of 7 to 10 mph will gust as high as 21 mph.

Saturday, there will be patchy drizzle before 1 p.m., according to the weather service. It will be partly sunny with a high near 81. A south wind of 11 to 16 mph will gust as high as 32 mph.

Saturday night, expect mostly cloudy skies with a low of 66, the weather service said. A south wind of 9 mph will gust as high as 20 mph.

Sunday, the forecast is mostly sunny skies with a high of 83, according to the weather service. A south wind of 8 to 15 mph will gust as high as 26 mph.

Sunday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 67, according to the weather service.

Monday it will be mostly sunny with a high near 86, the weather service said.
