by Kelly Rogge, KCKCC

With the fall 2016 semester underway, the Catholic Students of Kansas City Kansas Community College is gearing up with several new activities.

To kick-off the semester, the organization is having a Friday brunch from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 9 in the Lower Jewell building. This free event will happen each month as a way for the KCKCC community to come together to meet, discuss and have a good time, according to group leaders. Monthly meetings will be held from 10 to 10:50 a.m. every second Monday, and monthly Mass will be from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. every third Wednesday. You do not need to be Catholic to attend.

For the group’s September project, they will be raising funds and supplies for flood victims of the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans.

KCKCC schedules soccer doubleheader today

by Alan Hoskins, KCKCC

Kansas City Kansas Community College’s long-awaited home Region VI soccer opener comes Thursday when the Blue Devils play host to Cowley College in a doubleheader.

The Blue Devil women and Cowley will collide at 5 p.m. with the men’s team clashing under the lights at 7 p.m.

The Lady Blue Devils are coming off a narrow 3-2 setback at Johnson County Tuesday. Trailing 2-0 at halftime, KCKCC cut the deficit in half on a Bailey Zinser goal. JCCC then rebuilt its lead to 3-1 and then held on despite a Hanna Bishop goal.

“We had our opportunities but just couldn’t cash in after coming back from a 2-0 deficit,” said KCKCC coach Shawn Uhlenhake.

JCCC also took the men’s game 6-2. Hiago Gaspar and Pa Ousman Jobe had the Blue Devil goals.
