Public asked to help with information toward solving a shooting case near 7th and Washington

Kansas City, Kan., police are requesting the public’s assistance concerning a shooting in the 700 block of Washington Avenue.

Kansas City, Kan., officers responded to a call about a shooting at 7:21 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, near 7th and Washington, according to a police spokesman.

They found a man in his 20s who had been injured by gunfire, the spokesman said.

The victim stated that three males, possibly in their 20s, who were driving a four-door maroon Nissan Altima, pulled up and began arguing with him.

During the argument, one of the males shot him, the spokesman said. The victim stated that the suspect was wearing a long white T-shirt and shorts.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-8477.

The case is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department.

Community event tonight to discuss KanCare expansion

A KanCare Expansion community action event is planned from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Donnelly College Event Center, 608 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan.

Members of the Alliance for a Healthy Kansas are sponsoring the community event. The organization is planning community events across Kansas to discuss what KanCare expansion would mean for Kansas residents.

According to a spokesman, expanding KanCare would help the state’s economy and more than 150,000 Kansas residents would be able to access health care.

Suspect taken into custody in connection with shooting on North 27th

A suspect has been taken into custody in a shooting on Wednesday, Sept. 7, in the 3000 block of North 27th Street, according to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department.

At 7:26 p.m. Sept. 7, officers responded to a shooting call and found a man in his 20s who had been shot, the spokesman said.

The victim was taken to a hospital in serious condition, the spokesman said.

Charges are pending in the case, the spokesman said.
