Weather gets warmer this week

Look for unseasonably warm temperatures this week, with highs about 10 to 15 degrees above normal, the National Weather Service said.

The heat index will rise into the id-90s Monday through Wednesday and may approach 100 on Tuesday, according to the weather service.

There is a slight chance of storms tonight across an area to the north of Greater Kansas City, but not for the Greater Kansas City area, the weather service said. A strong storm capable of gusty winds and small hail is possible to the north.

Storms again will be possible to the north on Wednesday night into Thursday, however severe weather is not anticipated, the weather service said.

Today, it is sunny with a high near 89, according to the weather service, and a heat index as high as 99. A south southwest wind of 5 to 13 mph is expected.

Tonight, look for a low of 70 with mostly clear skies, the weather service said. A south southwest wind of 5 to 7 mph will become calm after midnight.

Saturday night, there is a 50 percent chance of rain and storms, with a low of 64, the weather service said.

Sunday, there will be a 50 percent chance of rain with a high of 77, according to the weather service.
