Lane to be closed on I-635 bridge over K-5

The right lane of the northbound I-635 bridge over K-5 will be closed for bridge deck pavement repair beginning 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, and reopening to traffic at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The work will be done weather permitting, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Advance message boards are in place alerting traffic to the lane closure, according to KDOT.

Traffic will be directed through the work zone via message boards, cones and signage. Drivers should expect delays during their daily commutes and should allow extra time during this 24-7 lane closure, a spokesman said.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, take it slow, obey the warning signs, and slow down when approaching and driving through the project work zone.

Candidate forum planned Oct. 1

A Candidate Forum on Criminal Justice is planned at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Bethel Neighborhood Center, 14 S. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan.

The forum is sponsored by Kansans for Smart Justice, ACLU of Kansas, Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation, El Centro, Kansas Appleseed, Kansas Black Leadership Council, Kansas City, Kan., NAACP and MainStream Coalition.

All Wyandotte County state legislative candidates are being invited to participate.

The candidates will be asked about their views on the criminal justice system and the state level criminal justice policies they support.

The event is free and open to the public.

Warm temperatures today, storms possible Saturday

After a warm Friday, a round of thunderstorms will move in Saturday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

These storms could bring some gusty winds and heavy rain, which could cause isolated flooding, the weather service said.

Storms should move out of the area by Sunday afternoon.

Today, it will be sunny with a high near 85, the weather service said. There will be a south wind of 5 to 9 mph.

Tonight, expect mostly clear skies with a low of 69 and a southeast wind of 7 mph, according to the weather service.

Saturday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m., according to the weather service. The high will be near 85, with a south wind of 6 to 13 mph.

Saturday night, there is an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The low will be around 66 with a south wind of 5 to 9 mph, the weather service said.

Sunday, there is an 80 percent chance of showers with a high near 72, according to the weather service. There will be a north northwest wind of 5 to 10 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Sunday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 53, the weather service said.

Monday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 70, according to the weather service.
