BPU charity golf tournament to be Sept. 10

The BPU Employee Charity Golf Corp. will hold its annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Dub’s Dread Golf Course in Kansas City, Kan.

As part of its ongoing commitment to the community, BPU employees sponsor and hold this annual golf event which, to date, has raised nearly $500,000 for charities and nonprofits in Wyandotte County.

The 2016 tournament kicks off with registration and a continental breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The individual entry fee is $95, which includes greens fees, cart, a continental breakfast, refreshments on the course, and an awards dinner with prizes and free give-aways after the tournament. There are also several opportunities for individuals or companies to contribute or donate to this charity event, including corporate sponsorships at various levels, in-kind donations of gift certificates, golf balls, tees, and other items for use in player goodie bags. Lottery jackpots are climbing this holiday weekend

Kansas Lottery players have a chance to achieve financial freedom this Independence Day weekend after no tickets matched all numbers in the big jackpot games this week. The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday night’s drawing is an estimated $415 million, with a cash option of $286.4 million.

The Powerball jackpot continues to climb. The estimated Powerball jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing is $243 million, with a cash option of $165.9 million.

One ticket matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball to win a $50,000 cash prize in last night’s Powerball drawing. The lucky ticket was purchased in northeast Kansas. The winning numbers are 23-29-37-60-64 Powerball 6.

The Hot Lotto jackpot rolled after no tickets matched all numbers in last night’s drawing. The estimated Hot Lotto jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing is $3.81 million.

In addition, the Super Kansas Cash jackpot continues to climb. The estimated Super Kansas Cash jackpot for Saturday night’s jackpot is $1.82 million.

Two KCK students receive graduation honors at K-State

Two Wyandotte County students are among more than 480 students at Kansas State University who earned graduation honors with their May 2016 degrees.

The students, from Kansas City, Kan., are Jennifer Padelli, summa cum laude; and Javier Quinonez, cum laude.

There were 115 students who earned the top graduation honor, summa cum laude. They had an academic average of 3.95 or higher. Students who graduated cum laude totaled 184 and had an academic average of 3.750 to 3.848.
