Flooding closes some northeast Kansas roadways

Update: as of 10 a.m., U.S. 24 reopened in Jefferson County.
Flooding has been reported in Leavenworth County, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
As of 8:30 a.m. May 11, K-5 in Leavenworth County over Seven-Mile Creek was closed to all traffic because of flood waters over the roadway, KDOT said.
K-192 in Easton and Leavenworth County also was closed to all traffic because of flood waters over the roadway, KDOT said.
In Jefferson County, Kan., U.S. 24 from U.S. 59 to 5 miles east (mile marker 390) was closed to all traffic because of flood waters over the roadway, and was expected to reopen in 1.5 hours, KDOT stated.
Drivers must use alternate routes and there are no marked detours at this time, according to KDOT.
The National Weather Service said there is a flood warning for the Missouri River at Atchison, Kan., Napoleon, Mo., and Waverly, Mo., St. Joseph, Mo., and Miami.
Those encountering water on the roadway should not attempt to drive through it but should turn around and go back, the weather service said. As little as 6 inches of water may cause a vehicle to lose control.
