Roads reported closed because of flooding

Several roads have been reported closed in northeast Kansas as of 10 p.m., according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

They include:

– K-5 (Leavenworth County) over 7-Mile Creek still closed to all traffic due to flood waters over the roadway.

– K-92 (Leavenworth County) over Stranger Creek closed to all traffic due to flood waters over the roadway.

– K-192 (Leavenworth County) over Stranger Creek in Easton closed to all traffic due to flood waters over the roadway.

– U.S. 24 (Douglas/Jefferson counties) from Tepee Junction (U.S. 24/40 split in Lawrence) to U.S. 59 (Jefferson County) closed to all traffic due to flood waters over the roadway.

The roadways are not expected to reopen until sometime later tonight, KDOT stated.

Drivers must use alternate routes. No marked detours provided. Drivers: Do not attempt to drive through flooded or high water on roadways. Drivers should turn around and go back.

Wyandotte County remains under a flash flood watch until 1 p.m. Friday.

Flash flood warning in effect until 11 p.m.

A flash flood warning is in effect until 11 p.m. for Wyandotte County as well as some surrounding counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms were producing heavy rain around 6 p.m. over the warning area with nearly 4 inches of rain reported near the Kansas City International Airport, the weather service said.

Mike Tobin, the Unified Government acting public works director, reported to the commission tonight that water pollution crews have been working heavily on flooded streets.

He also said there were UG public works crews working to clear several trees down as a result of the storm.

The weather service reported there were evacuations of some apartments in the Ferrelview Village area in Platte County. Flash flooding is expected to continue.

The weather service urged residents to turn around and not try to drive through flooded roads.

Besides the flash flood warning, Wyandotte County also is under a tornado watch until 10 p.m.

As of 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26, K-5 in Leavenworth County over 7 Mile Creek was closed to all traffic because of flood waters over the roadway, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The roadway was not expected to reopen until sometime later today. Drivers are asked to use alternate routes. They should not attempt to drive through flooded or high water on roadways.
