Bishop Ward names football coach for next season

Bishop Ward High School Head Football Coach Tim Dorian will step down as coach for next season, according to a news release from the school.

Dorian, from the Bishop Ward Class of 1979, has been building the football program for the last four years as head coach, taking the team to the bi-district playoff game in 2013. As a former player of the program, Dorian is a loyal alumnus who believes in the future of the program and the school.

Coach Dorian has powered through the last four years building confidence and belief among his players while remaining optimistic along the way. Although the Cyclones have struggled with their record and number of wins, the overall attitude about the football program continues to remain positive.

Thanks to Coach Dorian, his student-athletes never lost faith and nearly 12 players have gone on to play at the next level. He was an inspiration to many as he taught them how to fight to become winners –on and off the field. His work has set the stage for future success on the field in the years to come.

“We are very sad to see Coach Dorian leave, but we are so thankful for the time he spent with our students and the groundwork he laid for future football teams in Cyclone Country. He was a strong mentor for our students and truly embodied what it means to be a Cyclone,” said Father Thomas Schrader, Bishop Ward president.

Kameron Ridley, current athletic director and assistant under Coach Dorian for the last three years, will be taking over as head football coach for the 2016 season.

Ridley is originally from Dalton, Ga., and attended the University of Saint Mary where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education. While at Saint Mary he was a captain of the football team and received honorable mention as Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference running back.

“I would like to thank Tim for all of his hard work, dedication to the football team, and the opportunity to learn underneath him. I am excited to take on this new journey and continue to build upon the foundation he has laid,” Coach Ridley said.

Coach Ridley will take over the spring workouts and be adding to his coaching staff for next season.

KU Hospital partners with KVC to add adult psychiatric beds

by Mike Sherry, Heartland Health Monitor

The University of Kansas Hospital said Friday that it is partnering with KVC Health Systems to provide adult psychiatric care in Wyandotte County.

Under the arrangement, KVC Prairie Ridge Hospital’s 12 adult psychiatric beds in Kansas City, Kan., will become part of KU Hospital. It will be called The University of Kansas Hospital Adult Services at KVC Prairie Ridge, according to a news release.

Based in Olathe, KVC Kansas is a nonprofit provider of behavioral health care and child welfare services, including foster care and adoption.

KVC will continue to provide child and adolescent psychiatric treatment separate from the partnership.

The partnership does not change the operations of KU’s adult psychiatric inpatient unit on the hospital’s main campus, the release said.

KVC hospitals have been a teaching site for the psychiatry department of the KU Medical Center for 10 years.
