Lottery offers Tax Day promotion on Friday

The Kansas Lottery is offering a free $2 ticket to anyone who buys $5 or more in Mega Millions on Friday, April 15.

According to a lottery spokesman, the free $2 Hot Lotto with Sizzler ticket, with a quick pick, includes a jackpot in which taxes are paid by the lottery.

The Tax Day Free Play promotion will run from 5 a.m. to 8:59 p.m. Friday, April 15, only.

The Hot Lotto jackpot for the Saturday, April 16, drawing is an estimated $2.05 million.

Kansas players have captured seven Hot Lotto jackpots since joining the game in 2006. The largest Hot Lotto winner in Kansas was Lori Boyle of Independence, who won $12.9 million in July 2007.

The deadline for paying income taxes this year is Monday, April 18, a few days later than normal because of the Emancipation Day holiday being observed in Washington, D.C. April 15.

KCK resident injured in motorcycle collision on I-635

A Kansas City, Kan., resident was injured in a collision at 7:23 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, on I-635 just south of Metropolitan Avenue in Kansas City, Kan.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle was southbound on I=635 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a Pontiac G6.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 52-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man, was injured and taken to a hospital, the report stated. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the trooper’s report.

A passenger on the motorcycle, a 35-year-old Emporia, Kan., woman, also was injured and taken to a hospital, the report stated. She was wearing a helmet, the report said.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 55-year-old Independence, Mo., man, was not injured, according to the report.
